The Vineyard version 2.0
A few weeks back, I had an extra 30 gallons of gas to burn, so I decided to head out and play the The Vineyard. Now usually this is a choice I seldom regret, however this was a tuesday and as I was soon to find out, Tuesday is Old Fart day at the Vineyard. OK it wasn’t exactly a day filled with aged flatuance, but the senior men’s club was attempting to set the record for the longest round in history. I should have known something was up when I was sent out on the back 9 first, but I figured it was a tournament that wouldn’t hold me up too much. Well, I was wrong again. But in those 6 hours spent in sunny escondido, I learned a few things.
- Yelling “Fore!” into a crowd of octogenarians is pointless.
- Golf balls can definitely be lethal.
- Old Mr. Rochester only had 3 months to live anyway.
- Golfers are solely responsible for errant golf shots.
Well before the guard comes to escort me back to my cell, I had better tell you about the course. The Vineyards is one of the most underrated courses in san diego. At $35.00 on weekdays for residents, it can’t be beat. The course is always in top condition, and the back nine provides enough elevation change for all 18. The Vineyards is the Stone IPA of San Diego courses. A great value at $3.49 for a 6.9% 22oz, but a round at the wrong time can land you in jail.
